Another alumnae on the stage

Former Head student Madi presenting at the NZ Archaeological conference

Former head student Madi Hickford was this week seen on stage presenting a paper at the NZ Archaeology Association conference in Dunedin.

Madi is currently undertaking a Masters thesis in archaeology at Otago. Her thesis and presentation focused on early photography in Aotearoa, and more specifically relates to some exceptionally well preserved glass plate negatives, that were recovered from a well uncovered during an urban salvage excavation that was undertaken in central Invercargill.

The aim of her project “is to explore how this evidence of photography in the archaeological record enables a deeper investigation into the social history of photography in late 19th century and early 20th century Invercargill, and New Zealand more broadly.” (text from the conference abstract).

Yet another high achieving alumnae (former student). #manahoromaka #hornbypride
