National Shakespeare success

Nadia in Year 12 chosen to represent Aotearoa New Zealand in London

Nadia in Year 12 has been selected to be a Member of the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company 2022 (SGCNZ YSC 2022). She was chosen after participating in the SGCNZ National Schools Production (NSSP) 2021 in October which she was invited to after her performance at the SGCNZ’s National University of Otago Sheila Winn Shakespeare Festival (SGCNZ UOSWSF) earlier this year. She has been selected to represent New Zealand over 2 weeks in London next year (2022), where she will perform at the Globe Theatre!

This is an outstanding success and says so much not only about Nadia’s natural stage talent, but also about the incredible opportunities that Hornby High School students gain in drama and the performing arts at Hornby High School.

Tumuaki Robin Sutton commented that when he first saw Nadia perform on stage as a Year 8 student, he felt that she had a more natural stage presence than almost any student he had seen in 40 years of experience in education. ‘That she has gained this amazing recognition says a lot not only about her talent (which is truly outstanding), but also about the work of Hornby High School  and its staff in developing student talent in the performing arts, and more generally in its work as a ‘centre of creative excellence’ he said. “We are all incredibly proud of Nadia. She has a whole community behind her, supporting her every step of the way. Nadia truly represents everything that we aspire to in terms of our values, and of achievement.”
