Rugby

This season the Hornby High School girls’ rugby team combined with Villa Maria to enter the premier girls’ mid week schools division. This was a step up from last season where the team played in the Development Grade. We were pleased to have the support of coaches Mark Williams and Wayne Goodgame who offered their time and expertise both pre season and in season to develop and support the team.

We are extremely grateful to them and there was a noticeable improvement in the skill level and progress made by the players. Despite the competition starting later due to poor weather the team performed extremely well against some very experienced teams. A number of players were successful in trialing and being selected for Canterbury age group teams.

We would like to congratulate Christina Fifita on making the Canterbury U18 and South Island U18 Girls rugby teams. Adi McGoon was also selected for the Canterbury U18 Development Team.

We look forward to seeing rugby grow within the school in the coming seasons. Thank you to Mrs Petrie for the time and effort she has put into this group.
