The 2022 Calculator Competition was held on Tuesday the 21st June at the Aurora Centre in Burnside High School.
Our team consisted of four Year 11 students. Participants could use a standard scientific calculator and/or graphics calculator. There were four rounds with a set time limit in the team competition and a quick-fire mental arithmetic quiz for individual challenge matches where one of the team members competed.
Four of our Year 11 students, Axle, Khush, Ranit and Khyle, represented our school and competed with 16 other teams from different Canterbury secondary schools. Khush bravely competed in the mental arithmetic round. Even though they did not take the trophy home, it was a wonderful experience for our young mathematicians to be part of this prestigious competition. They absolutely exhibited their passion in learning Mathematics and Technology. They are four of our role models who displayed our school CARR values by simply sacrificing their lunch breaks for training and their commitment to stand there with pride as Hornby High School students. For them, winning is a bonus to take home but it was a great achievement to represent our school.
