Hornby High School has determined that all students in Years 7-13 will be required to have a Chromebook supplied by the family/whānau from the start of 2018.

The incredible learning gains that we see for learners in writing, numeracy, and reading, is all the evidence we need to know how important our student’s use of devices is. Remember that it is not the devices that make the difference, but the ways in which they are used. They only make a difference if we do things that we could not otherwise do. The ability to write and publish to a real audience, making learning visible, is something that could not be done very easily without a device.

There is also now plenty of research evidence to show that writing using electronic tools results in all of us writing more, and writing better. That is what we see here at school.

While we understand that Chromebooks are a big expense, it is a very worthwhile investment in your student’s education. If you are struggling to purchase one outright, please come and talk to the office staff. We can assist with applying to WINZ or City Mission as alternative options.
